Dream Seekers

Looking for a beauty getaway without leaving town? The new  dream spa, a light-filled haven overlooking Greenwich Avenue, feels more like a resort destination spa than a close-to-home beauty zone. The serene, contemporary interiors are swathed in white and gray, with pale wood floors, plush couches and leather chairs in the lounge (don’t miss the chewy gingersnaps to snack on post-treatment), chic sconces and fixtures from Klaffs, and amenities such as a couples treatment room. “What sets us apart is that the environment is part of the experience,” says owner Lori Dodd, who founded Dream Spa in Westport and has a beauty background that includes managing Barney’s New York apothecary. “The product lines here are more exclusive than you’ll find at other places.” These include Sachajuan hair care from Sweden, Charlotte Rhys beauty and bath line from South Africa and natural skincare by Vermont’s Tata Harper.

While the spa focuses on the classics—try the Wake Up Call package for a facial, massage, mani/pedi and lunch from Terra, across the street. Dream also offers state-of-the-art treatments, such as the BainUltra system with heat therapy, aromatherapy, music therapy, light therapy and chromatherapy and also a Suvara spray tanning room. The full-service hair salon is staffed with experienced stylists and colorists, but blow-dry walk-ins are welcome. With enough space to accommodate bridal parties, the spa will host Thursday spa social nights for champagne, mini facials and blowouts and Sunday beauty brunches. In a rush? Book the Dream Essentials service for a mini massage, facial and blow-dry; in an hour and a half, you’ll be back on the Avenue, glowing. 151 Greenwich Avenue, 203-629-2525;

The Greenwich Girl

Dream Day Spa has been a well known staple in Westport for over 10 years but when that little heavenly sign popped up just a few doors down from Vineyard Vines right here our little gem I was beside myself. For years I have heard of their unmatched massages and their fabulous facials but only until this week was it hear say. As the details for the upcoming Fashion's Night Out we're being confirmed one by one it was only fair to take a break and check out the newest spa in town. From the moment I walked in the eucalyptus scented air and the relaxing ambiance brought me to a rare state of contentment. With a palette of whites and grays, with a splash if blue here and there, the color scheme and interior design of Dream Day Spa were enough to hurdle you into a dream state. After a hour long Swedish massage followed by a glycolic ($145)and collagen facial ($145) I was more relaxed than I have ever been. With a hair cut and blow dry left on the to-do list I figured why not check out their salon?! ($80+) Sitting in their beyond comfortable salon chairs and chatting with Nektarious as I told him all about the new rage of babyccinos I was over the moon thrilled when he swiveled me around. Blown out to perfection with a sophisticated yet subtle cut, Nek (as in Nektarious- he is Greek) had really done a beautiful job with my platinum locks. As I gathered my things and reluctantly removed the plushy robe that I didn't want to give back, I left Dream wondering if they would ever consider renaming it Heaven. If you need a day to yourself and some time to relax check out Dream Day Spa for a variety of services. I walked out of their glamorous spa that day and the lyrics to one of my favorite songs, "wide awake" by Katy Perry, popped into my head as I related to her in feeling like I was "falling from cloud nine" as I left the building.

DAYSPA Magazine, April 2009

Nestled in a charming 125-year-old Colonial house, Dream Spa & Salon is sophisticated and upscale – just like the affluent coastal Connecticut town of Westport in which it’s located. And like it’s hometown, which was the first in the Nutmeg State to ban plastic bags from grocery stores, Dream Spa is one of the only facilities of its kind in the area to make major eco-friendly moves.

“We needed to and – more importantly – wanted to get with the times,” says owner Lori Dodd, who opened Dream Spa in 2000 after spending 20 years in the retail, design and beauty industries. “We wanted to do the right thing for ourselves, and it also helps us get ahead of the competition. The modern spa guest asks for green, looks for green and makes decisions based on how green your services and environment are.”

That’s why Dodd recently reopened Dream Spa after a thorough renovation. She used it as a way to jump-start the total greening of her spa environment. But despite this step toward the industry’s future, Dodd and her team still have a strong grounding in well-established spa traditions.

Westport Magazine

"A Spa-head's Dream: With just one step into DREAM SPA, your blood pressure eases then falls. The soft gray tones of the décor, the scented candles perfuming the air and the sophisticated minimal decorating scheme contribute to a business ambience dedicated to well-being. Dream Spa makes you feel, as owner Lori Dodd says, 'like you have arrived in the home of a good and gracious friend.'"

Spafinder Magazine, November / December 2004

"For the 'upscale setting, elegant service.' and pampering seaweed body wrap and Vinchy-shower treatment. 'I feel so relaxed here. There's never a soul in the hallways, yet I'm sure they're really busy.' "

Westport Minuteman, June 2003

"...what can I say that the name does not say for itself already. Dream Spa is truly a dream come true. Located at 1220 Post Road East, this charming Colonial house offers an array of services that send you straight to heaven. Here you will find tranquillity in an atmosphere of understated elegance. This calm is afforded by an attentive, professional staff. This relaxed ambience - this transformational experience enables you to truly escape the day-to-day stresses in life."

“O” Magazine, July 2001

"The Perfect Touch. Warm stone facial: Like its predecessor, the warm stone massage, this facial involves heated river rocks. Tiny warm stones are placed on the cheeks, chin and forehead to relax muscles. (Available at Dream Spa & Apothecary, Westport, Connecticut)"

“W” Magazine, April 2001

"Spas are finding ways to give jaded sybarites something to restore their faith in sensual pleasure... treatments that explore the boundaries of self-pampering. Twenty stones, four hands, one body. We're warning you: After you've had two therapists knead and stroke your body with heated river stones, you won't want to go back to the mundane one-therapist massage.

During the initial moments of the hour-long Rock Your World treatment at Dream Spa & Apothecary, situated in a charming 200-year-old house, you may feel a little self-conscious. Are the masseusses elbowing each other over your cellulite? Smirking about your tan lines? And who's doing what, exactly? But after five minutes of undivided attention from two sets of skilled hands and 20-odd hot rocks, you'll find yourself floating in a space somewhere between relaxation and euphoria"
